[header] How to be good with young children [title] Listen carefully. [step] If you are looking to bond with a child, start by paying attention when they speak. Kids are just finding their voices, and what they are saying is very important to them.

endings

  1. Put everything they said down on paper and make time to stop in for a moment and listen. Later on, you'll need to fill that space with topics about younger children.
  2. As they get older they can learn to listen more than act. That doesn't mean you have to wait for a few hours to listen.
  3. To help them hear you, try to step back and observe things about the child's voice as they talk. Pay attention to their body language: they may make an abrupt, jerky movement when talking.
  4. Actively listen when a young child is speaking to you. [substeps] One way to demonstrate that you are listening is to make eye contact.
